Merrick Johnson, Founder, Maverick Solutions

Hi, I'm Merrick.

I've been on your side of the table.

Before I started Maverick Solutions, I ran marketing for a Lexington grocery co-operative that hadn't turned a profit since 2016. In 2022, we did. Not because of a rebrand or a clever campaign, but because we made a lot of unglamorous decisions about who we were talking to and what we were asking them to do.

I also served as President and CEO of the Carlisle-Nicholas County Chamber of Commerce, where I worked with small businesses that had real revenue, real payroll, and no marketing budget to speak of. That's where I learned what most agencies never see: the problem usually isn't that the marketing is bad. It's that the business owner is doing six jobs and marketing is the seventh.

Why flat-fee

I've watched small businesses sign agency retainers they couldn't sustain, pay monthly for work they couldn't measure, and end up owning nothing when they left. The retainer model is built for the agency's cash flow, not your growth.

So I priced differently. You get a scope and a number before we start. If the project grows, we talk about it first. You own everything at the end with our business model: code, files, accounts.

What I bring

  • Marketing operator, not just a designer. I've owned P&L results, not just deliverables.
  • MBA, University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business — expected December 2026
  • Strategy and execution in one person. No account manager relaying your feedback to someone you'll never meet.
  • Local. I'm in Lexington, Kentucky. I'll meet you in person.

Who I work best with

Small to mid-sized businesses that have outgrown DIY but aren't ready to fund an agency. Owners who want to understand what they're paying for. People who'd rather have a straight conversation than a pitch deck.

If that's you, let's talk.
